Denotational Semantics of the Simplified Lambda-Mu Calculus and a New Deduction System of Classical Type Theory

چکیده
Classical (or Boolean) type theory is the type theory that allows the type inference (σ → )→ ⇒ σ (the type counterpart of double-negation elimination), where σ is any type and is absurdity type. This paper first presents a denotational semantics for a simplified version of Parigot’s lambda-mu calculus, a premier example of classical type theory. In this semantics the domain of each type is divided into infinitely many ranks and contains not only the usual members of the type at rank 0 but also their negative, conjunctive, and disjunctive shadows in the higher ranks, which form an infinitely nested Boolean structure. Absurdity type is identified as the type of truth values. The paper then presents a new deduction system of classical type theory, a sequent calculus called the classical type system (CTS), which involves the standard logical operators such as negation, conjunction, and disjunction and thus reflects the discussed semantic structure in a more straightforward fashion.

On the denotational semantics of the untyped lambda-mu calculus
Starting with the idea of reflexive objects in Selinger’s control categories, we define three different denotational models of Parigot’s untyped lambda-mu calculus. The first one is built from an intersection types system for the lambda-mu calculus leading to a generalization of Engeler’s model of the untyped lambda calculus. The second model introduces correlation spaces (coming from Girard’s ...
متن کاملDenotational Semantics of Call-by-name Normalization in Lambda-mu Calculus
We study normalization in the simply typed lambda-mu calculus, an extension of lambda calculus with control flow operators. Using an enriched version of the Yoneda embedding, we obtain a categorical normal form function for simply typed lambda-mu terms, which gives a special kind of a call-by-name denotational semantics particularly useful for deciding equalities in the lambda-mu calculus.
متن کاملA Minimal Propositional Type Theory
Propositional type theory, first studied by Henkin, is the restriction of simple type theory to a single base type that is interpreted as the set of the two truth values. We show that two constants (falsity and implication) suffice for denotational and deductive completeness. Denotational completeness means that every value of the full set-theoretic type hierarchy can be described by a closed t...
متن کاملExploring the Gap between Linear and Classical Logic
The Medial rule was first devised as a deduction rule in the Calculus of Structures. In this paper we explore it from the point of view of category theory, as additional structure on a ∗-autonomous category. This gives us some insights on the denotational semantics of classical propositional logic, and allows us to construct new models for it, based on suitable generalizations of the theory of ...
متن کاملTowards a Canonical Classical Natural Deduction System
This paper studies a new classical natural deduction system, presented as a typed calculus named λμlet. It is designed to be isomorphic to Curien-Herbelin’s λμμ̃-calculus, both at the level of proofs and reduction, and the isomorphism is based on the correct correspondence between cut (resp. left-introduction) in sequent calculus, and substitution (resp. elimination) in natural deduction. It is ...
